Goal setting is one of the most effective tactics to motivate employees. Even though goals have long been used as a measure for employee performance, many organizations find that the goal-setting process takes a lot of time. Despite how time-consuming the process maybe when it is done properly, goal setting helps expand employee engagement in ways that drive high performance and benefits the organization overall. The method of setting goals can be as challenging as reaching them. I recommend three elements to think of when setting effective goals for your organization:
- Involve employees from start-to-finish of the goal-setting process
- Connect individual goals to business objectives
- Adjust to goals in real-time
Goals should not be a burden on your employees within your organization. When done right, setting goals should improve commitment within your organization and help clarify employees’ roles that will ultimately result in being a massive driver for the health and success of your organization.
